Weiwen Ma was born in Shanghai, China, took her first piano lesson at the age of five. She performed as a child numerous concerts in the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Shanghai Grand Great Theater Hall in China. In 2007 she received the Janet & William Schwartz Scholarship Award from Mannes College New School for Music.
Weiwen won the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Piano Competition performing with the CIM orchestra in February 2009, and won the third prize at the First Chinese International Piano competition and performed at the Town Hall in Manhattan, New York. Most recently, she took first place at the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition in Manhattan, New York, which resulted in a Carnegie Hall performance in May of 2009.
Weiwen studied with Robert Shannon at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she obtained the Bachelor degree and is currently studying with Antonio Pompa-Baldi at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she gained her Master degree in 2010. She participated in many master classes with internationally acclaimed artist such as Emanuel Krosofsky, Russell Sherman, Fu Tsong, and Vladimir Viardo.
