James Rhodes, violist, is a valued ASM Strings Faculty member with a diverse performing & music education background. His public performing debut was at age 17 as a viola soloist with the Utah Valley Symphony. He attended California State University - Fullerton on music scholarship, receiving a Bachelor of Music in 2005. James was then awarded the Master of Music in 2007 at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Having taught violin and viola since 1997 in a variety of settings including private studios and in the public education sector, James was recently the Director of Orchestras for a middle school in Alpine, Utah, where he directed a complete String Program for 12-15 year-old young adults from beginning to advanced levels. This also included helping organize benefit concerts for the music department of the school.
James is a winner of the Utah State Fair Music Competition & a finalist of the Redlands Bowl Young Artist Competition in California. He was a contracted member of Redlands Orchestra in 2004 and 2005. He is a substitute violist with such orchestras as Canton Symphony, Ft. Wayne Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony and Erie Philharmonic. He has performed as principal violist for various concerts around the country & has been fortunate to be awarded numerous scholarships to attend university and summer festivals. He continues to be an active chamber musician and recording artist.
